More than 37 years ago, I opened my front door and was met
by a bubbly blonde with a gigantic personality and a smile to match. Within the
next hour, I knew her entire life history and began a friendship that has
enriched my life in more ways than I can recount. During our high school and
college years, we shared many adventures and irreplaceable memories. Then came
marriage, careers, and family. Miles and the “busy-ness” of every day life
separated us physically, but our friendship has endured. Every conversation we
have is a continuation of the one before. Our careers have been varied and
interesting – from bus driver to professional clown to probation officer to
teacher. (I’m not telling who’s who.) Our children are fabulous, our husbands
supportive, and our faith has continued to grow. We have each had serious back
injuries that altered our lifestyles significantly and we’ve each nursed
terminally ill parents & in-laws. But, the force that is Dana cannot be kept
down for long. Dana says one of the reasons for this is what she learned from me
as I repeated over and over, "Can't never did anything". Her creative abilities
and outgoing personality have been put to use in organizations such as ABWA and
Red Hat Society. She’s put her talents into leadership roles and has created
several lines of crafts that align with her involvement in these organizations.
Dana says "Glenna has shared her talents, (which are many) around the world, through Dental
and Vision ministry and her church." After retiring from teaching, I was
floundering for an “outlet” for my creativity and something to do with my
hands. My dear friend encouraged me to come up with an idea and then we could
go into business.
One evening while we were chatting, she referred to me as
her “oldest” friend. Instantly, I snapped back, “I am NOT old… I’m vintage.”
And, “2 Vintage Friends” was born. Once we had a name for our enterprise, we
were off and running (okay, walking slowly). We had the blessing of being able
to spend a couple of weeks together this summer, and began our line called
“Plate-itudes”. We hope you will enjoy browsing through our varied line of
gifts made in celebration of friendships that are meant to last a lifetime.
There’s no friend like a
“vintage” friend!
